Mount St. Mary Academy's annual Christmas Assembly on Thursday, December 14, included a special surprise: the introduction of a new school mascot, Betty Belle! During a fun holiday-themed skit at the end of the assembly, Mrs. Claus interrupted Santa just as he was about to toss candy to an excited crowd to let students know she had an even better gift for them. A large present was then rolled out onto the court that, once turned around, featured the new mascot. Betty Belle looks like a bell as a play on words with Mount's long-time mascot, the Belles, and her costume features the school's traditional purple and gray colors.
It's been several decades since Mount St. Mary Academy has enjoyed having a mascot, with the last known one existing in the late 80s. Betty Belle will help promote school spirit and pride at pep rallies, Belles' sporting events, and other school gatherings.
